Metastatic breast cancer in the mandibular condyle mimicking temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disease

چکیده
Metastases or tumour to the jaws are rare and those to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are even rarer. The symptoms like preauricular pain, swelling and clicking are generally associated with TMJ disease. But the same symptoms are also found in tumours of the jaws or other diseases. We report on the case of a 48-year-old woman with a 12-year history of breast cancer who was referred to our department for clarification of preauricular swelling and pain. The possible aetiology of TMJ disorders and the frequency and localization of metastases to the jaws are discussed.

Mandibular condylar metastasis mimicking acute internal derangement of the temporomandibular joint.
Metastasis of a tumour to the mandibular condyle is rare. We describe a case in which a patient presented with isolated condylar metastasis mimicking acute internal derangement of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Open biopsy revealed a lesion seated within the condylar head and extending through the bony cortex to the infratemporal fossa. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of metastatic l...
متن کاملPrevalence of Radiographic Changes of Temporomandibular Joint Condyle in Patients with Skeletal Class II and III
Background and purpose: Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders are abnormalities that interfere with the shape or normal functioning of the joint, characterized by a group of clinical symptoms including pain, joint sounds, and limitation or deviation when opening the mouth. Considering the effect of skeletal relationships of the jaw on the shape, size, and morphologic variations of the condyle...
متن کاملSevere bony ankylosis of the temporomandibular joint on one side and contralateral adhesion: A case report
Bony fusion between the mandibular condyle and skull base involves temporomandibular joint (TMJ) bony ankylosis. This condition might originate from trauma, infection, or systemic disease. TMJ adhesion can develop after synovial damage. Both TMJ ankylosis and adhesion lead to functional impairment and pain. Here, we present a case of a 50-year-old female who had bony ankylosis of the right TMJ ...
متن کاملComputed tomography imaging findings of simultaneous bifid mandibular condyle and temporomandibular joint ankylosis: case report.
Bifid mandibular condyle is an uncommon entity described in the literature as having a controversial etiology. Despite the absence of clinical symptomatology, the radiologist must be aware and should have some knowledge of this abnormality, as well its implications regarding functional and morphological changes. TMJ ankylosis is a disabling disease with involvement of the mandibular condyle, ar...
